The Fragrance

Patchouli oil is characterized by an intense, earthy-woody, and balsamic scent profile. The top note is herbaceous and slightly camphor-like, with a pleasantly tart freshness. As the scent develops, warm, balsamic, subtly sweet, and slightly leathery and smoky facets unfold, lending the fragrance an extraordinary depth. In the dry down, patchouli oil develops a soft, velvety, and long-lasting woody note that is both powerful and harmonious.

Use in Perfume Composition

Patchouli oil is primarily used in the base note and is one of the most important fixatives in perfumery. It lends depth, warmth, and long-lasting longevity to chypre, fougère, oriental, and gourmand compositions. At the same time, it harmoniously blends floral heart notes such as rose, jasmine, or tuberose with amber, woody, and musky base accords, ensuring a balanced, multi-layered fragrance profile. Patchouli oil is used in Florascent fragrances such as Patch’Noir, Patchouli, Bahou, Attar Noir, and many other perfume compositions.

Aromatology

Patchouli oil is known for its grounding and balancing effects. It is used to address stress, emotional instability, and inner restlessness. For a stabilizing blend, patchouli can be combined with lavender and bergamot.
