Botanical name: Commiphora molmol
Extraction: Myrrh oil is obtained through steam distillation of the resin.
Origin: Somalia
The Fragrance
Myrrh oil has a dry, bitter-balsamic, and slightly medicinal-spicy character with a smoky, resinous depth. Its structure is warm, earthy, and subtly animalic, with a dark, sacred-seeming presence.
Use in Perfume Composition
Myrrh is used in heart to base notes and serves as a resinous fixative in oriental and spiritual accords. It enhances depth, darkness, and olfactory texture. Myrrh oil is used in Florascent fragrances such as Tishka, Cinnambre, Chypre, Oud Caramel, and other Florascent perfume compositions.
Aromatology
Myrrh is known for its centering and calming effects. Areas of application include meditation, stress relief, and emotional stabilization. For a balancing blend, myrrh can be combined with, for example, frankincense and sandalwood.
