The Fragrance
Iranian galbanum oil has a very distinctive, intensely green, and resinous-earthy scent profile. The scent is reminiscent of fresh plant sap and green buds, and initially comes across as tart, bitter, and slightly spicy. As it develops, softer balsamic and woody-green facets emerge, lending the scent structure and richness. The effect of galbanum oil can be described as naturally green, powerful, and exceptionally distinctive.
Use in Perfume Compositions
Galbanum is used as a top- to heart-note ingredient and serves as an intense green accord in chypre and classic floral compositions. It creates contrast, provides structure, and adds olfactory tension. A well-known example is Vent Vert by Balmain. Galbanum oil is used in Florascent fragrances such as Freesia, Chabana, and other Florascent perfume compositions.
Aromatology
Galbanum is known for its grounding and centering effects. Areas of application include inner restlessness and stress. For a stabilizing blend, galbanum can be combined with lavender and frankincense.

Natural constituents of galbanum essential oil include: alpha- and beta-pinene, alpha-thujene, limonene, myrcene, ocimene, terpinolene, germacrene, delta-cadinene, cubebene, carvacrol methyl ether, 1,3(E),5(Z)-undecatriene, and 2-sec-butyl-3-methoxypyrazine.
