The Fragrance
Bay oil has a pleasantly fresh, warm-spicy, allspice-like, and slightly sweet-balsamic signature with a clove-like depth. The top note is sharp and aromatic; as the scent develops, smoky, resinous, and slightly fruity nuances emerge, combined with a phenolic, dark warmth.
Use in Perfume Compositions
Bay oil is used in heart notes and serves as a spicy fixative in fougère-like and masculine compositions. It blends herbal and spicy accords with woody bases. One example is Old Spice Classic. Bay oil is also used in Florascent fragrances such as Le Marquis, Quarzazate, Red Incense, and other Florascent perfume compositions.
Aromatology
Bay oil is known for its invigorating effect. Applications include mental exhaustion and lack of motivation. For a stimulating blend, bay, rosemary, and peppermint can be combined, for example.
